Date Sold 7/29/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Polish Movie Poster (23x33; measures 22 3/4" x 32 3/4") (Learn More) Ride the High Country (released in other English-speaking countries as "Guns in the Afternoon"), the classic 1962 Sam Peckinpah (directing his second big screen movie ever!) cowboy western ("Showdown in the High Sierras with the girl and the gold for the first to draw!"; "Showdown in the High Sierra!"; "In CinemaScope and Metrocolor"; about an ex-lawman who's hired to transport gold from the mountains and he hires an old friend to help him but the friend double-crosses him) starring Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, Mariette Hartley, Ron Starr, Edgar Buchanan, James Drury, Warren Oates, and R.G. Armstrong. Note that this movie was excellent, thanks to the fine writing of Sam Peckinpah. But what really elevates it into being a classic of its kind is the inspired casting of two real life 1930s cowboy stars as the tired old stars of the movie. What is even more interesting is that originally the two stars were playing the opposite roles, but at some point early in production, Scott and McCrea realized they were better suited to playing the other role, and so they switched parts!
