Date Sold 10/22/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Set of 8 2021 "Faux" Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; see below) (Learn More) the double-bill release of The Black Room, the 1935 Roy William Neill ancient prophecy crime horror thriller (a clever story of twin boys who are the sons of a powerful Baron; the oldest one inherits the title and all the wealth, and unfortunately, he is evil and detested by his subjects; the younger one by minutes is very nice and much loved; the evil one abdicates his title, which gives it to the nice brother, which makes the people very happy, but then the evil brother kills the nice brother and takes his place, planning to eliminate anyone who could uncover his scheme!; however, the dead brother was left handed, and the live brother is right handed, so he must quickly learn to sign his name left handed!) starring Boris Karloff (in a dual role as the twins, Gregor and Anton; billed on some items simply as "Karloff"!), Marian Marsh, Robert Allen, Katherine DeMille, Thurston Hall, Torben Meyer, and Henry Kolker AND The Devil Commands, the 1941 Edward Dmytryk communicating-with-the-dead mad scientist horror melodrama ("When the Devil Commands KARLOFF OBEYS..!"; "Monstrous master of horror.. Enters Satan's service!"; "STEEL YOURSELF for the iron hand of horror!"; "Karloff turns killer in a horror-crammed thriller!"; a wild story of mad scientist Boris Karloff's wife dying, and he discovers that one of his machines can pick up her brain waves even after her death, and he is therefore convinced that there must a way to communicate with the dead; he finds a medium conducting a seance, and even though she is a fake, Karloff thinks she can help him in his work, and he builds suits that hold dead bodies that kind of look like space suits, and with electricity, he is able to somewhat revive them, but before he can complete his experiments, he is killed) starring Boris Karloff, Richard Fiske, Amanda Duff, Anne Revere, Ralph Penney, Cy Schindell, and Shirley Warde. Note that this movie is mostly forgotten today, but most viewers say it is a really underrated B-horror movie gem, especially thanks to the performances of Karloff and Anne Revere (as the fake medium), and thanks to the really crazy seance sequence at the end with the dead bodies in the weird suits! Important Added Info: Note that this is one of 52 "faux" lobby card sets we were consigned, which we are auctioning in 52 separate auctions! WHAT ARE THESE? Starting in 2021 a long time collector who (like so many of us) chose to stay home that year a lot due to Covid, and he made many faux lobby sets like this to help pass the time! He was inspired by the "Fantasy #9" lobby cards created several decades ago, each of which is from a classic horror/sci-fi movie, showing a great scene that wasn't in the original set! He created those sets using top images from each film! He did not make them through a computer program, but instead pasted together actual prints to create mock-ups. On most of these he made 8 card sets, but on some of them he created sets with odd quantities (as low as 4, and as high as 26 cards!). He then printed just THREE of each set, and he promised not to reprint them (and he has not). He numbered the first card in each set, and what we offered was the "1 of 3" of each set, which meant there are only two other sets of each, and there will never be more of those. SINCE 2021, OUR CONSIGNOR HAS MADE MORE SETS THREE TIMES, AND IN EACH CASE WE AUCTIONED THE "1/3" OF EACH SET. BUT NOW, OUR CONSIGNOR HAS SENT US 52 OF THE PAST SETS, BUT THESE ARE "2/3" (and we are auctioning them in 52 separate auctions). So in every case, we previously auctioned the 1/3 of each of these sets, and now we are auctioning the 2/3, so since our consignor told us that he is keeping the 3/3 of each set, then that means this is everyone's last chance to purchase one of these sets (unless he later decides to auction the set he kept for himself). So the winner of this auction has just one of three of these numbered sets that were created! REMEMBER THAT OUR CONSIGNOR PROMISES TO NEVER REPRINT THESE! So once again this is a great chance to get any of these really cool faux lobby sets! Condition: fine. These faux lobby cards are in excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
