An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Misleading Widow, the 1919 John S. Robertston silent romantic comedy farce ("Adapted From 'Billeted' By F. Tennyson Jesse and H.M. Harwood"; "Scenario by Frances Marion"; "The typewriter used by Miss Burke is a Corona, the personal writing machine"; about a woman who runs up huge bills buying fancy clothes, and to pay her debts, she reports her husband dead, and collects the insurance, but he has not actually died, only left, and she begins renting a room to a bachelor, and her husband returns disguised and rents another room, and she has romantic and legal complications dealing with the two men and a busybody scandalized neighbor!) starring Billie Burke ("By Arrangement with Florenz Ziegfeld Jr."), James Crane, Frank Mills, Madelyn Clare, and Fred Hearn. Billie Burke was a top star who was married to Florenz Ziegfeld, so that explains why she was credited in the above way. And of course, two decades later, she would become Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz! Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned six lobby cards from this movie, but we have NEVER auctioned this title card! Note that in the days immediately following World War I, there were a huge amount of returning veterans who could not find jobs, and labor was cheap and plentiful. This likely explains why the studios began hand-coloring lobby cards, and they also would sometimes have glitter applied to the letters of the title card! This was incredibly time consuming, because it was done to every single card one by one (in the case of the glitter, the person would apply glue to the letters, then shake glitter over the card, and let it dry, just as we all did in kindergarten!). As economic conditions improved in the country, and as printing technology also improved, these methods of decorating cards vanished! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There is glitter glued to parts of the title and credits area (see above). Someone later tried to remove some of the glitter, and there is much scuffing in the right of the title. Please look at our super-sized images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this card. Learn More about condition grades
