An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Looney Tunes, the 1940 stock poster for theaters showing Looney Tunes animated cartoons ("A Vitaphone Short Subject"). Note that this poster (which features art of Porky Pig driving a car with Daffy Duck) would be ordered by theaters showing the Vitaphone shorts cartoons, and they would either place a snipe in the upper right blank area or hand write in the name of the particular movies they were showing that week, thus getting many posters for the price of one! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned four examples of this poster, and only two in the last 27 years, and of course, some of those might be the same poster coming back to auction. Three of the four were linenbacked, and all had the blank box in the top right. THIS example has an original snipe glued to the top right area, which is certainly far nicer! Note that the person who had the poster linenbacked had the restorer leave the snipe as it was, which is that it was lightly glued at the top only. If I owned this poster, I would surely have a restorer glue the entire snipe on, so that it can't be damaged, but of course, that will be the choice of the new owner of this rare poster. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had its original snipe glued to the box in the top right (see above). It also had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some separation and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. It had small paper loss in the center of the top blank border. The attached paper snipe has a 1 1/2" tear in the lower right. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and, as noted above, the snipe was left as it is, and as I said above, if I owned this poster, I would have the snipe glued down and have the small tear repaired. Either way, this poster will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
