An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Tom and Jerry, the circa 1950s stock poster for MGM's Tom & Jerry animated cat-and-mouse chase animated animation cartoon comedy shorts. The poster has great artwork images of Tom & Jerry engaging in their usual feline cat & mouse hi-jinks! Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in 1940, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have seen an MGM stock one-sheet from the 1950s which has "A METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER CARTOON" and "TOM AND JERRY" at the top, with a blank area at the bottom where the poster would be overprinted with the title of one of their cartoon shorts. This great full-color stock poster has no printing on it except for "LITHO. IN U.S.A." in the bottom right corner. It is stamped "TOM & JERRY 1SH" on the back. We strongly suspect that it was intended for theaters to overprint information about the specific cartoon they were showing on the top or bottom background areas, but that was never done with this poster, and we have never seen it before. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. The poster has very light fold and border wear and a few small, light partial diagonal creases near portions of the some crossfolds. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition and it displays well!
