An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Asphalt Jungle, the classic 1950 John Huston (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) crime film noir ("MGM presents the story of the city under the city."; "From a novel by W.R. Burnett"; about a "perfect robbery" with a team of top professionals, but of course, everything unravels, partially through double-crosses; perhaps the best movie of its kind!) starring Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), John McIntire, Marilyn Monroe, Marc Lawrence, Barry Kelley, Anthony Caruso, Teresa Celli, Brad Dexter, Don Haggerty, and Daniel Clarke NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Marilyn Monroe was a virtual unknown when this classic film noir movie was first released in 1950, and did not even receive billing on any of the posters, but because the poster designers recognized the value of having a sexy woman's image in some of the advertising, they used an image of Marilyn on some of the posters, but the primary ad campaign for this movie was a text only poster, with the words "THE ASPHALT JUNGLE", with the tagline "THE CITY UNDER THE CITY", written in a cool font and design (the one-sheet has no image whatsoever). But almost every collector considers this insert the very best poster on the title, because not only is there a headshot of Marilyn at the top along with the other top cast, but there is also a full-length Marilyn at the bottom (alongside a cool montage of the cast members seeking the fortune in diamonds that they were robbing!). Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has two additional horizontal folds 2" below the regular top fold and 2" above the regular bottom fold. There are many creases on the extra fold that runs through the top of the title, and some extra creases on the three folds beneath it. There are pinholes in the corners. There are a few small tears in the borders and some faint smudges and creases around the edges. While this poster could be displayed as it is, this is a case where I ABSOLUTELY would immediately have the poster paperbacked (or gel backed). Why? Because the backing will greatly relax the creases along the foldlines and then slight paint restoration in just a very few areas will make this poster look incredible. But whatever the new owner decides to do, I am envious of them getting to acquire this fantastic poster! Learn More about condition grades
