An Original Vintage Unfolded German Poster (measures 8" x 11 1/2" [20 x 29 cm]) (Learn More) Entartete Kunst (literally translates to "Degenerate Art"), the 1936 German poster (with taglines that translate to "Exhibition of 'cultural documents' of Bolshevism and Jewish subversive work. What we see in this interesting exhibition was once taken seriously!") promoting an art exhibition which was held from March 4th to the 31st in the "White Hall of the Police Department" in Munich, Germany. This exhibition was a precursor of the much larger 1937 exhibition organized by Adolf Ziegler and the Nazi Party and held from July 19th to November 30th of 1937. Degenerate art was defined as works that "insult German feeling, or destroy or confuse natural form or simply reveal an absence of adequate manual and artistic skill". Artist: Hans Vitus Vierthaler Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare poster from Germany from during World War II, which we have never auctioned before. There are very few German movie posters from around World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. Condition: good. Note that this poster is heavily creased throughout with some scuffs as well. It has a 1/2" tear in the lower-right that has a small piece of tape on the back. Someone also wrote "antisemitic" on the front in what appears to be pencil at lower-right. It appears that someone had this pressed and flattened, which diminished how noticeable the creases are, but they are still noticeable, so bear this in mind before bidding.
