An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Monkey Business, the 1931 Norman Z. McLeod cruise-ship-stowaway seafaring slapstick comedy ("The Four Marx Brothers"; about the four brothers stowing away on a transatlantic cruise ship; concepts from this movie were reused in A Night at the Opera and Room Service) starring the Marx Brothers (Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Chico Marx, and Zeppo Marx), Rockliffe Fellowes, Harry Woods, Thelma Todd, Ruth Hall, and Billy Barty NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Constantin Alajalov Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. This means the poster was backed onto a board backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, and window cards. Condition: good to very good. The poster was paperbacked by Studio C. It had an area missing from the lower left corner. It included the bottom left side of Harpo's figure including the lower left part of his shirt and and jacket and the very bottom of his tie (it was approximately 2" x 3"). It did NOT include any of the playing cards or any of his neck or head or the top of the collar of the jacket. Aside from this paper loss, the poster had much light staining through the white background areas and a lesser amount of staining within the image area. The restorers COULD have made the card look "perfect", but that would have meant virtually re-painting the entire background and putting lots of touch-up all over the images, so instead they chemically lightened the stains, and did only minor touch-up to the images. The result is that you can see traces of the restoration, but from any distance away, it is not at all distracting. They re-created the missing lower left image area perfectly and I would think few collectors would realize that area was replaced if they were not told about it. Obviously, this card has had significant restoration, but it is also clear that it is extremely rare and is almost never offered for sale. Please do not bid on this card unless you can accept the restoration it has had. I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display this card on their wall!
