An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 46" x 62 1/2" [117 x 159 cm]) (Learn More) Belle de Jour (released in the U.S. in 1968 as "Belle De Jour [Beauty of the Day]" and "Belle De Jour [Belle of the Day]"), the classic 1967 Luis Bunuel French/Italian erotic prostitute-with-marital-problems romantic melodrama ("Belle de Jour - Beauty of the Day"; "Luis Bunuel's Masterpiece of Erotica!"; "Based on the famous novel by Joseph Kessel of the French Academy"; "Winner Best Picture Venice Film Festival") starring Catherine Deneuve (in the title role as Severine Serizy/Belle de Jour), Jean Sorel, Michel Piccoli, Genevieve Page, Pierre Clementi, Francisco Rabal, Francoise Fabian, Macha Meril, Muni, Georges Marchal, and Francis Blanche NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Rene Ferracci Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie! Note that the first French release of this movie was through Valoria Films, and they have a credit in the left of the bottom border. There is also a rating in the lower right border saying that people under a certain age will not be admitted. Within a few years after it was first released, the movie was re-released, with posters that DON'T credit Valoria, and don't have a rating. So you can tell the first release posters because they have both the Valoria credit and the rating. However, this gets confusing, because some original posters were reused at a later time, and the distributor had the Valoria credit overprinted with black, and also the rating, but in both cases you can see the original writing through the overprinting. These posters are first release posters that were overprinted and used at a later date. The poster we are currently auctioning IS one of the overprinted posters. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had some partial extra folds, with some creases, small tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds, and some creases and scuffs scattered throughout, more so in the solid black areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
