A Linenbacked French Travel Poster (measures 29 1/4" x 41 1/4" [74 x 105 cm]) (Learn More)

Environs De Royan (literally translates to "Around Royan"), the 1920s French railroad railway train travel poster encouraging people to visit Royan and Saint-Palais-sur-Mer using the Chemins De Fer De l'Etat railway. This poster features Roger Soubie artwork of vacationers enjoying the beach. Chemins De Fer De l'Etat (literally translates to "State Railways"), often referred to in France as the Reseau de l'Etat ("State Network") was an early state-owned French railway company. It was established by state order of the Third Republic in 1878 to take over ten small failing railway companies operating in the area between the rivers Loire and Garonne. In 1938, all French railway companies merged to form SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - the French National Railway).
Artist: Roger Soubie
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French travel poster! Also note that the art on this poster is by Roger Soubie, the same Roger Soubie who became the premier French poster artist!

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had fairly long tears in the top and bottom and two long ones near the center. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
