An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]). Also included are two linenbacked snipes (one measures 5 1/2" x 30 3/4" and one measures 5 1/2" x 31 1/4"; see below) (Learn More) Alien, the classic 1979 Ridley Scott English/U.S. science fiction (sci-fi) space monster horror action thriller ("In space no one can hear you scream."; "a word of warning..."; "Story by Dan O'Bannon & Ronald Shusett") starring Tom Skerritt (as Dallas), Sigourney Weaver (as Ripley), Veronica Cartwright (as Lambert), Harry Dean Stanton (as Brett), John Hurt (as Kane), Ian Holm (as Ash), Yaphet Kotto ("as Parker"), and Bolaji Badejo (in the title role as the Alien). Note that fantasy artist H.R. Giger did the wonderful art that was used to create the alien and the alien planet, but his art was not used on any of the regular posters, only on special prints created after the movie became a hit! Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this partially English movie, which we have never auctioned before! This is part of the Marler Haley set that was created for this movie. The complete set had two quads and four double crowns. We are currently auctioning one of the quads and three of the double crowns, in four separate auctions. All of these are incredibly rare! Also note that the poster designer did something very interesting with this poster! It has a tagline at the bottom that says "IT'S COMING SOON". The distributor printed snipes that read "2 SUNDAYS AWAY" and "3 DAYS AWAY", and the theater was supposed to put up the quad as soon as they first received it with the "IT'S COMING SOON" displayed, and then when it was two weeks away, they were supposed to put that snipe over the "COMING SOON" area, and then when it was three days away, they were supposed to put the other snipe over the "COMING SOON" area! The theater that used this poster did not use the snipes, but they did save them, and we are auctioning the quad plus the two separate snipes, and all three have been individually linenbacked. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a very few creases scattered in it. The two snipes were printed in two pieces designed to overlap and are both in nice condition. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking.
