A 1979 Re-Release Vintage Unfolded Printer's Test Television TV Poster (measures 35" x 63" [89 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Rocky, the classic 1976 John G. Avildsen (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Philadelphia Pennsylvania boxing sports action romantic melodrama ("His whole life was a million-to-one shot."; "Written by Sylvester Stallone"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; produced by Irwin Winkler) starring Sylvester Stallone (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Rocky Balboa), Talia Shire (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Adrian), Burt Young (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Carl Weathers (as Apollo Creed), Burgess Meredith (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Mickey"), and Butkus Stallone (as Butkus the dog!). Note this film was released late in 1976 and all of the first release U.S. posters have a 1977 NSS number on them. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 35" x 63" [89 x 160 cm]. This is a very rare uncut printer's test poster (often referred to as a "printer's proof")! Before a poster was printed in large quantities, the printer would print a limited number of posters as "test" posters. Because they needed to be shown to people at the studio, people in the art department, the stars, etc, they would print a number of test posters and distribute them to these people. Some of them would be fully trimmed, but often they would leave the color chart on the left edge of many of the posters, which added an extra inch to the width of the poster (which explains it's measurements). Once these printer's test posters were shown to the various people in a position to "OK" them, the printer would print the full print run of the posters. Not only is a printer's test poster far more rare than a regular poster, but it is also 100% genuine as there is no fear of purchasing a reproduction! We don't know exactly when this poster is from, but it is surely from the first TV showing of this Oscar-winning movie in 1979. There is another version of the poster that has a "Sponsored by Datsun" area at the bottom, but we have never seen that poster in person. We know it was made in two versions (the untrimmed printer's test poster we have auctioned proves that there was a version without the "Datsun", and another version with the "Datsun"). Certainly, it is a wonderful poster to display on anyone's wall! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. There are creases and scuffs in the top of the poster and some scattered throughout the poster with some tiny tears and tiny paper loss in the borders. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have it restored.
