An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Patriot, the 1928 Ernst Lubitsch (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this movie) Russia royalty family relationship murder melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; a wild story of a mythical czar who is pretty crazy, and his best friend and son conspire against him; ultimately, his best friend kills him, and when he himself is dying, he says "I have been a bad friend and lover, but I have been a Patriot.") starring Emil Jannings, Florence Vidor, Lewis Stone (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Vera Voronina, and Neil Hamilton. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving complete copies are thought to exist. However, a trailer for the film does survive! Also note that this movie included a large number of Russian peasants, and many of them were played by children, and Paramount had to have them schooled during the filming of this movie at the Paramount West Coast School, a similar situation existed with the Our Gang kids and all the other many juveniles who appeared in films at this time.

Important Added Info: Note that first release 1928 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned two lobby cards, a half-sheet, and a one-sheet from this movie until we received this lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. The card had darkened very slightly, unusual for Paramount linen cards of this period. It is also not at all fragile. However, someone must have really not liked Emil Jannings in this movie, because they put a big scuff mark from between his eyes down through his nose and mouth to the bottom of the image. They also put a scratch to the right of that near the tip of the nose. There is also a lighter scuff mark running down from Jannings' eyebrow through the left of his eye, and a second one running down the right side of his nose. Some really talented restorer touched up those areas without backing the card. When you look at the card tilted, you can clearly see the restoration, but when you look at it head on, it is practically invisible. We leave it to the bidders to decide how big of a detraction this is.
