Set of 8 Original Vintage Theater Used English Lobby Cards (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

The Great Victor Herbert, the 1939 Andrew L. Stone romantic musical melodrama ("He wrote the melodies to fit the words that sweethearts whisper to each other!"; "Based on a story by Robert Lively and Andrew L. Stone"; despite its title, it is not a biography of the operetta composer, but rather a romantic melodrama about actors in one of his plays) starring Allan Jones, Mary Martin, Walter Connolly (in his final role; in the title role as Victor Herbert), Lee Bowman, Judith Barret, and Susanna Foster

Important Added Info: This set of lobby cards came from a theater in Canada that mostly showed original English films (made in England). Each of the cards has an identical silk-screened background with a blank space left in each (like a blank area on a stock poster). Each of the eight cards then had a black and white still very neatly glued into the blank area (depending on the set, the stills range from 6" x 8" to 8" x 10"). I know these cards were used when English films were shown in Canada at the time of their first release. I don't know if they were only used in Canada or also in England and/or the United States. I do know that I have seen very few U.S. lobby cards from these titles, and the ones that I have have primarily been duo-tone. This is one of the only ways one can get original material from any of these films!

Condition: very good to fine. The card with Allan Jones, Mary Martin, and Walter Connolly has stains in Connolly's face and slight stains in Martin's face. The card with Connolly and Martin next to a picture has a 1/2" tear in the center of the top border.
