An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Adventure in Manhattan, the 1936 Edward Ludwig New York City romantic love triangle screwball comedy ("The gal who took Mr. Deeds to Town steps out again!"; a strange mixture of comedy and melodrama, with a very complicated story of McCrea as a super successful reporter who seemingly can predict the future, and Arthur as a would-be actress with a complicated history; strangest of all though, the movie starts out with the bizarre story of Jean Arthur telling McCrea she was married to a very wealthy man; she had an affair and her husband divorced her and leaves her penniless and also refused to let her see their small child; years later, she has been reduced to living on the streets, and she had just gotten word that her husband will let her see her child, so she stole McCrea's wallet in order to make herself look nice for the reunion, and she tells McCrea the story of what occurred so that he will wait three hours so she can finally see her child, and then the movie moves on to the original plot of McCrea as a reporter who predicts the future) starring Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, Reginald Owen, Thomas Mitchell, and Herman Bing. Note that if this movie sounds really complicated, it is because the producer of the movie bought the rights to 'Purple and Fine Linen' by May Edginton, which had been a silent movie called "Three Hours" in 1927. They took that plot and used it for the beginning of this movie, but then completely deviated from it, and changed a tragic melodrama into a bizarre comedy! It has to be seen to be believed!
