An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) The Hatchet Man, the 1932 William A. Wellman Asian/American Chinatown romantic crime thriller ("...he served two masters... LOVE and HATE!"; "He Kills! She Thrills!"; "Based on the play by Achmed Abdullah & David Belasco"; about an Asian Tong assassin who is forced to kill his best friend, and the friend had a young daughter that the assassin adopts, and when she grows up, he falls in love with her and marries her, even though she is many years younger than he, and that is only the beginning of a long and complicated story!) starring Edward G. Robinson (in yellowface makeup), Loretta Young, Dudley Digges, Leslie Fenton, and Tully Marshall. Note that there are many reasons why this movie would not be made today! For one, the lead actors wear "yellowface" makeup to make them appear Asian, and of course, that will never be done again. For another, the relationship between Robinson and Loretta Young is beyond inappropriate, and the fact that she was just 19 when the movie was made makes their relationship even more difficult to watch. This movie is a fascinating reference to things that were considered appropriate in 1932 America, and in that context, it is well worth learning about! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1932 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie poster or lobby card (only stills, a glass slide, and a trade ad) from this movie until we received this window card! Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good. The card had smudges, stains, and some tears around the edges, with creases in the top right corner. It had some smudges and stains scattered throughout the image, with surface paper loss in the center, affecting the bottom of Robinson's nose and the area beneath it. Many years ago, someone cleaned the card and performed restoration to it without backing it, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
