An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Blind Wives, the 1920 Charles Brabin silent romantic marriage designer clothes melodrama ("The greatest of all modern society dramas"; "Based on Edward Knoblock's famous international stage success 'My Lady's Dress'"; an unusual episodic movie, with a husband and wife quarreling at bedtime over how much she spends on clothes, and she goes to sleep and has five different dreams, each with her and her husband, and assorted unusual characters, and each relates to different aspects of the dress they were quarreling about; the last dream involves murder, after which the wife wakes up, and apologizes to her husband!) starring Marc McDermott, Estelle Taylor, Harry Sothern, Sally Crute, and Robert Schable. Note that this movie was based on a stage play called "My Lady's Dress", but the movie version came out one year after Erich Von Stroheim's "Blind Husbands", and it seems likely it was re-titled to "Blind Wives" to try to capitalize on the success of that earlier Von Stroheim movie! This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: very good. The card was roughly folded across the middle and there were creases and tears in that area and there were also many creases and tears in the top and bottom 4" of the card. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was quite nicely backed, but it required a considerable amount of paint restoration, much more in the solid black background areas than in the image. But from any reasonable viewing distance, the card looks wonderful! Learn More about condition grades
