Note that Raffles was a master criminal and jewel thief in a series of 26 short stories and one novel written between 1898 and 1909. The first movie adaptation was in 1905, and it was followed by others in 1917 (with John Barrymore in the lead role), in 1925, and the first sound version was in 1930 with Ronald Colman, and finally, in 1939 with David Niven. This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good to very good. The poster had creases, smudges, stains, tears, pinholes, and areas of paper loss around the edges, and some pinholes, tears, and tiny areas of surface paper loss within the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, because you can see slight signs of the restoration of the above defects, but from a reasonable viewing distance, they are not very distracting, and the poster does not have a "restored" look. Note that at some point after the poster was backed, it was roughly handled, and there is now tiny paper loss in the bottom corners and surface paper loss in the top left corner.
