An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock romantic crime mystery thriller ("It's a web of romance and suspense that spins you from delight to danger - then spirals to an explosive climax on the fabulous Riviera!"; "Based on the novel by David Dodge"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a retired jewel thief living on the Riviera, and there is a string of daring jewel robberies, so naturally, he is the lead suspect, and he decides to find the true thief himself, and he is aided by a beautiful rich young woman and her mother!) starring Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, Brigitte Auber, Rene Blancard, Georgette Anys, and Jean Martinelli. Note that Cary Grant had announced his retirement from movies in 1953, but he was lured out of retirement by Hitchcock to make this one. Also note that Jessie Royce Landis, who had played Grant's mother in "North by Northwest", this time played his potential mother-in-law, and yet, she was only eight years older than Grant, who had aged very well! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster was displayed and had faded, which drained much of the reds out of the poster (it only had a tiny bit of solid red areas, but the reds came out of the colors it was mixed with, primarily in the flesh colored areas of their faces, and a little bit throughout the rest of the poster). It also had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some small tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some folds. It had a 6" slightly diagonal tear in the blue area below the VistaVision logo. It had pinholes, tears, and some tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer did not address the fading issue described above. It displays well, and many people might not be aware of the fading unless it was pointed out to them, or unless they saw an unfaded example, but please bear in mind this significant defect before placing a bid on this poster.
