Circus began in 1937 as a small dog and pony show, in a tent hand-sewn by Obert Miller and his two sons Dorey and Kelly. In the beginning, the Miller family made up the performance; Obert worked the animal acts and booked the show, Kelly handled the book, sold tickets and clowned, his wife Dale played the calliope, Dorey and his wife Isla did a wire act and trapeze. The show steadily grew and expanded, and in 1945 it became the "2nd largest" circus and by 1950 it was one of the country's major motorized circuses (at least part of the time sponsored by the Chevrolet car company). The circus was noted for carrying the largest menagerie of wild animals. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this circus poster, which has a cool image of a very large number of circus animals, and the tagline "LARGEST, MOST VARIED AND VALUABLE COLLECTION OF RARE ANIMALS"! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had paper loss in the top left corner, slightly extending into the top of the "G". It had some creases and scuffs scattered in the image, and some smudges and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
