Date Sold 8/29/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Vertical British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Les Enfants Perdus Dans La Foret (released in English-speaking countries as "The Babes in the Wood"), the 1912 Georges Denola French Pathe-Freres silent fairy tale fantasy melodrama short about two orphans who are in the care of their uncle and he plots their murder in order to gain their inheritance by abandoning them in an enchanted forest filled with supernatural creatures; overwhelmed by the terrifying experience they die and their souls are carried away by angels to a heavenly realm! Despite the Brothers Grimm-esque story, this is a traditional English children's tale which was first published in 1595. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this poster before! Note that this poster was folded at one time, but it has been stored flat, and because it is somewhat fragile we are not refolding it and it will be sent rolled in a tube. Also note that few people know that in the early days of British quads, they were originally in a vertical format (but they measured 30" x 40", just as they continue to do throughout the years). This is because so few of them survive, almost surely because of the massive paper shortages in England during World War II! At some point in the 1950s, they changed orientation to be horizontal, and they have remained that way to the present day. Finally note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II English poster! Virtually no English posters survive from the 1940s or earlier, because during World War II there were many paper shortages resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Condition: good. The poster has creases and paper loss at lower right (see our image). There is much smaller paper loss in a crossfold at upper right and there is general fold and border wear.
