Martin Sostre was a black African American activist from the 1960s to the 2010s. After being arrested in the 1950s, Sostre converted to Islam while incarcerated. After being released from Attica prison, he went on to open the first Afro-Asian bookstore in Buffalo, New York. He was arrested again in 1967 on charges later found to be fabricated as part of a COINTELPRO program. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 92.
