An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27 1/2" x 39 3/4") (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Shanghai, the 1935 James Tinling China Asian detective mystery opium drug smuggling crime thriller ("Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Irene Hervey, Jon Hall (billed as "Charles Locher"), Russell Hicks, and Keye Luke. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Condition: very good. The poster had wear and tiny surface paper loss on the foldlines, more so near the crossfold. There was a 2" tear in the upper right border and a 3" tear in the upper left border. Other than the above defects, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer did not touch up the foldlines (any talented restorer could easily touch up this area without re-backing the poster). Learn More about condition grades
