An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Race to Space, the 1959 David L. Wolper made-for-TV Universal International space travel documentary ("Extra! Here are the facts that fiction never dreamed of... The amazing men, the incredible machines, the brilliant teamwork that have brought a new dimension to the universe!") starring Esther Goddard, Holger N. Toftoy, and narrated by Mike Wallace, with documentary footage of Sputnik and other aspects of the Russian and U.S. space programs. Note that this movie was made in 1959, and was offered to all three networks, all of whom rejected it (likely because it was controversial to be seen as "promoting" the Russian space program), so producer Wolper arranged for a "network" of 109 individual stations to show it in April of 1960! It was nominated for the Best Documentary Oscar. Note that this movie is incorrectly identified in the IMDb as "The Race for Space", and they have no entry for "The Race to Space", but they have a 1963 documentary by Wolper called "Project: Man in Space", so it seems surely like details from these two movies have been confused (and possibly there could even be three movies, because we saw a reference on another page to there being a 1962 revised version of "The Race to Space"). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
