An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Cat's Pajamas, the 1926 William A. Wellman silent romantic marriage wedding comedy ("From the story by Ernest Vajda"; about a male opera star who marries a poor seamstress in a marriage by convenience so that his female fans will leave him alone, but he is amazed to discover that she takes the marriage seriously!) starring Betty Bronson, Ricardo Cortez, Arlette Marchal, Theodore Roberts, Gordon Griffith, and Tom Ricketts. Note that this was William Wellman's 12th movie as a director, and that his very next movie was the epic "Wings"! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned an insert and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this one-sheet! Also note that this poster was created at a time when Paramount was experimenting with their one-sheets. They created some one-sheets with blank areas at the bottom where the theater could either print information about the show times (like with window cards), or they could provide information about what else they were showing that day, or any other information that they wanted to provide. This was solely done for some 1926 and 1927 Paramount movies and no others. This poster is one of those special one-sheets from that time (see our image).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss in the top right corner that extended into the blue background and into the top of the "re". It also had paper loss in the center of the top border, extending into the top of the blue background and a few small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and some in the lower right of the bottom white area, but all of those only affect white areas, except for a little bit of the "ON" of "LIGHTON" at lower right. The poster also had some small tears and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
