Date Sold 5/7/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) The Exile, the 1931 Oscar Micheaux romantic black African American melodrama ("Mighty Modern All Talking Epic Of Negro Life"; "Adapted from - 'The Conquest'"; about a man who falls in love with but then rejects a woman who runs a Chicago speakeasy and nightclub and he moves to South Dakota to become a rancher and falls in love with a white woman, but he believes his interracial relationship is doomed so he returns to the speakeasy owner but she is killed soon thereafter by a suicidal man; the rancher is briefly accused of her murder, but after he is cleared by a witness he gladly reunites with his rancher love and they return to South Dakota!) starring ("A Cast of Colored Stars") Eunice Brooks, Stanley Morrell, and Celeste Cole. Note that black African American movie pioneer Oscar Micheaux, one of the single most important men in the history of black African American filmmaking, wanted to make his first feature length "talking" movie, which would be the first all-black cast talking movie a sure-fire success, so he remade his very first movie, the 1919 movie entitled "The Homesteader", which had been adapted from his very first novel, the 1913 book entitled "The Conquest" NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned one movie paper item from this movie which was a three-sheet poster that we auctioned in 2005 (and that sold for $4,406!) until we were consigned this very rare group of six stills! Note that this is one of 10 sets of stills from "all black movies" from the 1930s and 1940s that we were recently consigned, and are currently auctioning in 10 separate auctions. Movie paper of any kind from the first releases of these movies is extremely rare, because these movies only played at the movie theaters that had only black patrons. First release one-sheets are very rare, but so are first release lobby cards and stills. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase one or many of these sets, some of which may not be seen again for many years! Condition: good. Each has varying amounts of of rippling, scuffs, creases and edge defects (see our images). Some have slight discoloration in some areas (especially on back). Please see our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of these stills prior to placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
