An Undated (from 1919 to 1921; see below) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Behind the Screen, the 1916 Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin) silent film-making studio slapstick comedy short starring Charlie Chaplin, Eric Campbell (as Goliath), Edna Purviance, Albert Austin, and Lloyd Bacon NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that any posters from either the first release or this 1920s re-release are beyond rare! The only poster we have ever auctioned from either released was a heavily trimmed window card that was recreated (and we auctioned that twice), but otherwise, had never auctioned a poster from the first release or 1920s re-release until we were consigned this three-sheet! Note that in 1919, the Clark-Cornelius Corporation bought the rights to the early Charlie Chaplin shorts, and began re-releasing them. In 1922, they released them for the last time, and in that year, they changed their name to C.C. Pictures. Some of the re-release paper from this company has the original release date on it, but they definitely date from between 1919 and 1921 if they say "Clark-Cornelius Corporation" or from 1922 if they say "C.C. Pictures", so because this poster says "Clark-Cornelius Corporation", it is definitely from between 1919 and 1921. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had creases, tears, and tiny surface paper loss on parts of several folds. It had many creases and scuffs scattered throughout. It had many small holes, mostly in lines, so they could have been pinholes or they might have been tack holes from being found under a floor. It had stains in parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. While one would certainly prefer to find a better condition example of this poster, it may well not exist at all, and the image still displays fairly well, although, certainly, the new owner might well hire a restorer to perform restoration to the above defects (which could be surely done without re-backing the poster). But please bear all of the above in mind before bidding on this rare and historic poster. Learn More about condition grades
