Le Desespoir de Petronille (literally translates to "Petronilla's Despair"), the 1914 Romeo Bosetti & Georges Remond French silent black comedy suicide short (about a woman whose fiance leaves her, and she tries to commit suicide, but everything she tries fails) starring Sarah Duhamel (in the title role as Petronille) and Lucien Bataille. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that from the earliest days of movies through the 1970s, the subject of failed suicide was often played for laughs as it was in this movie. In today's world, thankfully, no one will do this anymore.

Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, which we have only auctioned once before! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters!

Condition: good. The poster has separation in the bottom 7" of the left vertical fold, with some darkening, creases, and tears on parts of the folds and borders.
