An Original 1936 (from the first release of this movie in Australia) Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 14 1/2" x 39 1/2" [37 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Magnificent Obsession, the 1935 John M. Stahl rich-playboy-becomes-surgeon-after-accidentally-blinding-a-woman romantic melodrama ("After you see it you will never be quite the same again!"; "After you see it you'll never be the same again!"; "A notable novel -- NOW a great motion picture!"; "From the notable novel by Lloyd C. Douglas") starring Irene Dunne, Robert Taylor, Charles Butterworth, Betty Furness, Sara Hadden, Ralph Morgan, Henry Armetta, Beryl Mercer, Cora Sue Collins, Lucien Littlefield, and Theodore Von Eltz. Note that this movie was remade in 1954 with Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman in the lead roles! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there are two very similar "long" Australian daybills for this movie. The images and text are the same on both, but one has darker coloring, and that one is printed by "Watsford & Longstaff Studios" and has "Printed by Marchant" at the bottom. The other has lighter coloring and only has "Printed Photo Offset by Marchant" at the bottom. An expert we have talked to thinks that the Watsford one was printed when the movie first opened in Australia in 1936, and that the other one was printed soon after, likely because the movie became a big hit and they ran out of the original print run, so they had more printed. This is solely a guess, but it is an expert guess, based on experience with many, many 1930s daybills (plus, they both have to be from before 1940, because they are "long" daybills). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair. There are two cigarette burn holes in Dunne's cheek and hair and many scuffs and two tiny areas of paper loss in Taylor's face. There are tears and areas of paper loss around the edges. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
