'Rooster' Cogburn), Glen Campbell (as La Boeuf, the Texas Ranger), Kim Darby (as Mattie Ross), Jeremy Slate, Robert Duvall, Strother Martin, and Dennis Hopper. Note that this was the movie for which John Wayne won a Best Actor Oscar (over both Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight in Midnight Cowboy), and many people are of the opinion that the award was a gift to Wayne (a sort of "lifetime achievement award"), but actually, he was really magnificent in the part (although personally, I think Dustin Hoffman DID deserve the Oscar!). When this movie was first submitted for a rating, it was rating "M", and posters were printed with that rating. The producers of the movie decided it would be worth it to them to have the movie have a "G" rating, so that everyone would see it, and they did some small editing and it was resubmitted and rated "G". There are posters with both ratings, and both are from the first release of the movie, but we always note which rating items have, for those who want one or the other.
