An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 16" x 22" [41 x 56 cm]; 16 pages). Also included is an ad supplement that has one page. (Learn More)

The Carpetbaggers, the 1964 Edward Dmytryk fictional biographical millionaire tycoon melodrama ("It is unlikely that you will experience in a lifetime all that you will see in... The Carpetbaggers"; "This is adult entertainment!"; "Based on the novel 'The Carpetbaggers' by Harold Robbins"; obviously based on the life of Howard Hughes, but taking great liberties with the facts and small details of his life!) starring George Peppard (as Jason Cord), Alan Ladd (as Nevada Smith; in his final movie role), Robert Cummings (billed as "Bob Cummings"), Martha Hyer, Elizabeth Ashley, Lew Ayres, Martin Balsam, Ralph Taeger, Archie Moore, and Carroll Baker ("as Rina" Marlowe). Note that Alan Ladd made such an impression in this movie in his supporting role as Nevada Smith that a "prequel" to this movie was made. It was originally supposed to feature Ladd but his death by an accidental alcohol and barbiturate overdose forced the studio to recast Steve McQueen as the young Nevada Smith!

Important Added Info: Note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. This large pressbook (which measures 16" x 22") was folded across the middle, and there are creases and scuffs around the edges and on the fold.
