Date Sold 8/6/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked International One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 25" x 39 1/2" [64 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) An American Werewolf in London (released in Germany as "American Werewolf"), the 1981 John Landis (who also wrote the script when he was 19) English/U.S. romantic wolf man monster black comedy horror thriller ("From the director of Animal House... a different kind of animal."; "The Monster Movie"; "A Masterpiece of terror"; "Fantastic ...frightening ...funny ...!! John Landis - The director of Animal House brings you a different kind of animal.") starring David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, John Woodvine, and Frank Oz NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that many times in the past we have sold the rather bland 'regular' version of this poster (featuring an image of Naughton and Dunne looking scared) but this "international" style one-sheet, which features totally different art of a blood-red wolf against a black background, is far more rare than the regular poster, and is far more desired by collectors! We have only auctioned nine examples of it over our many years of auctioning, and several of those were in much lesser condition. Note that this one-sheet measures 25" x 39 1/2" [64 x 100 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Also note that this is an "international" style one-sheet (meaning it was printed in the U.S. for use in non-U.S. countries). Note the lack of a ratings box and NSS information. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period). It also had many creases and some small tears to the left of the vertical fold, with a lesser amount on parts of the other folds and some scuffs scattered in the solid black areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
