An Autographed 3" x 5" [8 x 13 cm] Index Card with 8" x 10" REPRODUCTION Still (Learn More) Bruce Bennett was an actor from the 1930s to the 1980s. Early in his career he was billed as "Herman Brix", which was his actual name, but he is probably best remembered for his excellent supporting role in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre". He had been a star shot-putter in the 1928 Olympics (where Johnny Weissmuller won swimming medals), and he was MGM's FIRST choice for the lead in "Tarzan the Ape Man" in 1932, but he injured his shoulder (he separated it during a football scene in the 1931 movie "Touchdown"), and they went with Weissmuller instead! However, he was still one of the first sound Tarzans. In 1935, he starred in the non-MGM independent production called "The New Adventures of Tarzan", which actually was far more faithful to the books than the MGM movies, but which did not do well at the box office. In 1938, he played a Tarzan-like character in "Hawk of the Wilderness", and after that movie was not very successful, his career took a major downturn. He spent most of the 1940s playing very minor roles. Somewhere along the way, he took acting lessons and changed his name to Bruce Bennett, and he became much more successful. He is probably best remembered for his excellent supporting role in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre". He retired from movies in 1960, at which time he became a successful businessman, passing away in 2007 at the age of 100 (and he was active to the end, skydiving at the age of 96!). Important Added Info: This index card has been personally autographed (signed) by Bruce Bennett! Also included is an 8" x 10" still that the index card could be matted and framed together with! Note that this is one of many items that was consigned to us by legendary Tarzan collector Phil Petras. Mr. Petras was one of the greatest Tarzan fans ever, and he became good friends with several of the actors who played Tarzan, and over many decades, starting in the 1970s, he would meet with actors and actresses who had appeared in Tarzan movies, sometimes on the sets of films, and sometimes at fan gatherings. Prior to his recent passing, he consigned most of his collection to us, and we are currently auctioning many of his autographed items, sometimes from actors who played Tarzan or Jane, and sometimes from actors who appeared in one or more Tarzan movies (but the items we are auctioning may or may not be from their Tarzan films). Mr. Petras naturally did not have "certificates of authenticity", but we feel certain that the autograph on this item, and every other item we are currently auctioning from his collection, is surely authentic! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
