A Linenbacked Special Poster (measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Give to Conquer Cancer, the 1950s charity poster ("Strike back") created by the American Cancer Society to encourage people to donate, and featuring Walter Bomar artwork of a gauntleted hand holding the Sword of Hope (the logo of the ACS). Note that the American Cancer Society was founded in 1913, but they did not even mention the word "cancer" in their advertising because it was so depressing, because there were no cures! In 1928, they adopted the striking "sword in hand" symbol that they used on their advertising, and of course, in 1973, cigarette companies agreed to quit advertising in the media and on billboards, thanks to the efforts of this organization!
Artist: Walter Bomar
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this special poster!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had some faint stains and tiny tears in small parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
