Kaufman, with a script by Kaufman and Robert E. Sherwood; musical numbers staged by Busby Berkeley, who was borrowed from Warner Bros., and he brought along many of his best dancers and showgirls; Berkeley managed to work with both studios by doing this movie at night while working at Warners during the day; produced by Samuel Goldwyn; about a delivery boy in "West Rome", a small town in middle America, who is hit on the head and wakes up in Ancient Rome where he is sold as a slave, and ends up at the royal palace, involved in much royal intrigue; after many adventures, he wakes up in the modern day, and he uses her new-found knowledge to become a hero!) starring Eddie Cantor, Ruth Etting, Gloria Stuart, David Manners, The Goldwyn Girls, Edward Arnold, Verree Teasdale, and Alan Mowbray. Note that Lucille Ball and Paulette Goddard were two of the "Goldwyn Girls" (this was in Lucille Ball's first year of making movies, when she had several uncredited appearances in roles like these!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: When you talk about "politically incorrect" scenes, this one is up there! Not only is Eddie Cantor in blackface (which the "Goldwyn Girls", including Lucille Ball, find hilarious), but there are also two "black" slave girls who are not amused! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There are horizontal scuff marks running across the center of Cantor and into the waists of the girls next to him. There is another horizontal scuff line below that in the lower right, running through the knees of the standing girls and through the neck of the sitting girl. There are a few tiny dot stains in the shoulders of two of the blonde girls by Cantor. There are pinholes around the edges, with a pencil mark in the top right corner and a tiny bit of paper loss in the bottom left blank corner. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
