A Complete Set of 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Intermezzo: A Love Story, the 1939 Gregory Ratoff romantic love triangle music infidelity melodrama ("As magic as your own surrender to love..."; "An interlude of brief enchantment seized from tomorrow's uncertainty. Dramatized with a romantic new star team... Drawn not from yesterday's story books but from the living world of today."; "An intense and absorbing tale, with the wide, powerful sweep of a great human document... teeming with the passionate and the genial and the bittersweet..."; "Millions of people share the heart-gripping problems portrayed by these three"; about a famous violinist having an affair with a young girl) starring Leslie Howard, Ingrid Bergman (billed as "Introducing Ingrid Bergman"), Edna Best, John Halliday, Cecil Kellaway, Enid Bennett, and Ann E. Todd. Note that producer David O. Selznick was certain that Ingrid Bergman would be a huge star when he signed her to a contract in 1938, having seen her Swedish movies. To play it safe, for her first U.S. movie, he chose to re-make one of her earlier Swedish successes, "Intermezzo", which she had made in 1936 with an all-Swedish cast, in Swedish of course. Selznick's instincts were correct (as he had been so often before, and would be again), and Bergman DID become a huge international star! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that lobby cards from this movie, Ingrid Bergman's first American movie, have always been difficult to obtain. In all our years of auctioning, we have only auctioned a total of 5 lobby cards from this movie (three "regular" cards, and two "other company" cards), and three of those were between 7 years go and 14 years ago, so the cards certainly rarely come to auction. But now we have been consigned not only a complete set of the regular cards, but also a complete set of the "other company" cards, and we are auctioning them in two separate auctions (a complete set in each). It might be many, many years before you get another opportunity to bid on either complete set. Condition: very good. The title card has a tiny bit trimmed from the top of the top blank border and it has some smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. The card with Howard holding Bergman by the ocean has a small line of paint staining in the top right corner of the image, and the card with the woman comforting Bergman has a small brown stain in the right of the top blank border. Those two cards are in "very good" condition, and the other five cards are in "very good to fine" condition. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of these cards. Note that these lobby cards are completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back of any of them! Learn More about condition grades
