An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Theatrical Folded French Large Movie Poster (31x47; measures 31 1/2" x 47 1/4" [80 x 120 cm]) (Learn More) David Golder, the 1931 Julien Duvivier French Jewish family relationship evils-of-wealth melodrama (about a rich Jewish businessman who has a spoiled wife and daughter; he has no compassion whatsoever, but when he loses his fortune and suffers a heart attack and faces poverty, he thinks his wife and daughter will comfort him, but all they do is complain, and he comes to terrible realizations about how he should have led his life too late) starring Harry Baur (in the title role as David Golder), Paule Andral, Jackie Monnier, Jean Bradin, and Gaston Jacquet. Note that some people have claimed this movie was anti-Semitic because of its plot, and its timing was very unfortunate, being released in France and Germany at the exact time Hitler began his rise to power. The author of the screenplay was Irene Nemirowsky, a Jewish author who died in a concentration camp a decade later. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this is an extremely rare French poster from during World War II! Virtually no French posters survive from during or right after World War II (mostly only some heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
