An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

Sabotage (released in the U.S. in 1937 both under its original title and as "The Woman Alone"), the 1936 Alfred Hitchcock English detective mystery crime suspense thriller ("From the novel by Joseph Conrad"; about a group of saboteurs who are causing damage in London, and one of their gang runs a movie theater as a cover, and his wife and her brother help him run it, but they know nothing about the sabotage, and Scotland Yard sends a man to work next door to the theater to catch the gang) starring Sylvia Sidney (billed as "*courtesy of Walter Wanger Productions Inc."), Oscar Homolka, John Loder, Desmond Tester, Joyce Barbour, and William Dewhurst

Important Added Info: Note that when this poster was found, the original title of "The Woman Alone" had been cut out (affecting the bottom of the man's jacket at lower left, but otherwise having little effect on the image), and almost certainly a new title was pasted into that area (likely the 1940s re-release title, "I Married a Murderer"). This also meant that the credits below the original title were cut out, likely because the new title took up more space than the old one. At some later date, someone decided to restore it back to how it should have been, and they recreated the original title and the original credits below it. But they put "A GB Production" under "From the novel by Joseph Conrad" and apparently someone found an image of the three-sheet and saw that the "A GB Production" should have been at the lower left, and they painted it in there, and painted over the misplaced credit. So most of the bottom third of the poster has been replaced. But it displays really well and would be a great addition to any collection.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. Only the top two-thirds of the poster, plus a little more of the bottom third was present . It contained almost all of the image, but the title and bottom credits were missing (also see above). A very talented restorer recreated the missing portion of the poster, making every effort to match the original "look" that this area had (including the stone litho look of the red background area and even including the small writing in the bottom white border), and I know many people would not realize this area had be recreated unless it was specifically told to them! Other than being incomplete, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. It had tears and areas of paper loss on parts of the foldlines, including in the left of Sidney's eye at top left (and in her temple below it) and also affecting the nose, eye, and forehead of the man at top right. It had tears and areas of paper loss on the other foldlines. But all of the above was well restored, and the poster displays well (although you can certainly tell it has had restoration, I would think most people would suspect that the restoration was mostly confined to the top two-thirds rather than the large amount of restoration in the bottom title and credits area). Please read our description above and look closely at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
