An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German "A1" Movie Poster (measures 23" x 33" [58 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) Der Zerbrochene Krug (released in English-speaking countries as "The Broken Jug"), the 1937 Gustav Ucicky & Emil Jannings German judicial legal law melodrama (about a judge in a small town who gets drunk one night, and stumbles into the home of a beautiful woman who is with her lover, and he not only gets beaten, but he also breaks a valuable jug and loses his judicial wig, and the next day, he must go to court where everybody is talking about the incident of the night before, not realizing he was the intruder!; based on the play by Heinrich von Kleist with the screenplay written by Thea von Harbou) starring Emil Jannings, Angela Salloker, Elisabeth Flickenschildt, Paul Dahlke, Friedrich Kayssler, and Max Gulstorff. Note that this is a "forbidden" movie. This refers to movies that were made in Germany between 1933 and 1945, during the time the Nazis were in power in Germany. These movies are considered to be propaganda movies, which glorify the Nazi regime and their ideals. Immediately after World War II, a list of many movies that were made between 1933 and 1945 was created, and those movies were not allowed to be shown at any time in Germany or Austria. Over the next decade, some of those movies (including this one) were taken off the list so that they are allowed to be shown (but rarely are), and those movies are known as "forbidden movies", because even though they can now be shown, they could not be shown at all in the years right after World War II. The remaining 40 or so movies are known as "conditional" movies, because they are still not allowed to be shown in Germany or Austria, even in the present day, with the sole exception being when they are shown in an educational context, like at a university, and a speaker talks before and after the movie. All of the "forbidden" movies and "conditional" movies glorify Nazism in some respect, or they were created by directors or featured actors who were prominently associated with the Nazi party. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Grindler & Waldschmidt Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some creases in the bottom center and creases, smudges, and tiny tears down the right border, and a diagonal crease in the bottom left. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone had the poster mounted onto a very thin linen, and then they put a circular punch hole in the top left and top right (and likely displayed the poster by putting those punch holes over hooks). I don't think I have ever seen anyone do this to a linenbacked poster before, but the poster could still be easily removed from the thin linen and re-backed. Learn More about condition grades
