Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper" He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in the first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, one with Ray Milland and many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had minor wear along the foldlines and a few small tears in the right border. Overall, the poster was in quite nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
