An Original Vintage 7 1/4" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] News Photo (Learn More) Judy Garland (born Frances Ethel Gumm) was a legendary actress and singer from the 1930s until her passing in 1969. She was born in 1922, and as a young child performed with her older sisters as "The Gumm Sisters". In 1935, she was signed to a contract by MGM, who changed her name to Judy Garland. She appeared in some shorts, but in 1937, at Clark Gable's birthday party, she sang "You Made Me Love You", which was filmed, and got her noticed, and her role as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" gave her great fame. She appeared in "Ziegfeld Girl" in 1941, and "For Me and My Gal" in 1942, and she appeared in a series of popular musicals with Mickey Rooney. Her personal life was very messy, with many affairs and problems with drugs and alcohol. She married director Vincente Minnelli in 1945, and in 1946 had daughter Liza. She went on to another marriage to Sid Luft, and the remainder of her life was very troubled, but she continued to perform, including giving two excellent film performances in "Judgment at Nuremberg" (where she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award) and "A Child is Waiting". Some of her other movies include: Meet Me in St. Louis, A Star Is Born (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and many more. She passed away in 1969 at the age of 47 AND Frank Sinatra (born Francis Albert Sinatra) was a legendary singer of the 1940s, who became a major movie star that same decade, and continued singing and acting for many years. Some of his movies include: many MGM musicals (some with Gene Kelly), as well as dramatic roles like The Man With The Golden Arm (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Manchurian Candidate, and From Here To Eternity (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). He, along with his best friends, were known as The Rat Pack, and he was the inspiration for the "Johnny Fontaine" character in the Godfather movies! AND Dean Martin was an actor and singer from the 1940s to the 1980s. He was a member of the Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Peter Lawford. He was partnered with Jerry Lewis in live performances and in a series of memorable movies until they had a very publicized break-up, after which each had long solo careers. Some of his movies include: Rio Bravo, The Young Lions, The Silencers, and Some Came Running Important Added Info: Note that this news photo measures 7 1/4" x 9" [18 x 23 cm], and it shows Judy, Frank, and Dean when they appeared together in 1962 on the 60-minute TV special called "The Judy Garland Show". This is not to be confused with the series she had that ran from 1963 to 1964 (for 20 episodes), which was also called "The Judy Garland Show". This special is very highly regarded by Miss Garland's fans, but the show the following year, "not so much". Condition: good. This news photo was used in the Los Angeles Times, and they only wanted to show the image of Judy Garland, so they put orange printer marks around the edges of the still, including in the faces of Frank and Dean, and they also put white touch up paint around Garland's hair and the top of her dress, which covered part of Frank's face. Certainly, a talented restorer could remove that white touch up paint and the orange marks, but bear the cost of restoring this in mind before placing a bid on this wonderful still.
