eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result #8103 MAKE ME A STAR LC '32 Stuart Erwin Date Sold 9/23/2003Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Make Me a Star, the 1932 William Beaudine romantic screwball acting comedy ("It could only happen in Hollywood"; a wacky story of a man who goes to Hollywood wanting to become a western star, but he gets a chance and his acting is terrible; a pretty actress likes him, and she thinks he could be a funny comedian, but he doesn't want to do it, so she lies to him and tells him he has a role in a western when it is really a comedy western, where he is intended to play a bumbling cowboy, which he does well without intending to!) starring Joan Blondell, Stuart Erwin, Zasu Pitts, Ben Turpin, and features cameo appearances by Gary Cooper, Tallulah Bankhead, Clive Brook, Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert, Phillips Holmes, Fredric March and more! Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good to fine. 1/4" tear and a small amount of tattering in the upper left edge as well as some scuffing and minor creases throughout the card Learn More about condition grades
