An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 44 1/4" x 63" [112 x 160 cm]) (Learn More)

Douce (released in the U.S. as "Love Story"), the 1943 Claude Autant-Lara French romantic love triangle class difference melodrama (about an aging Countess, her son, who has a wooden leg, and her granddaughter, and their romantic involvements with the manager of their estate and a governess, and how they are unable to act on their feelings because of their differences of status) starring Odette Joyeux (in the title role as Douce), Madeleine Robinson, Marguerite Moreno, Jean Debucourt, and Roger Pigaut. Note that this movie was made during the Occupation of France by the Nazis, and it has sharply divided film critics ever since its release! Some consider it a masterpiece, like the best 1940s French movies, and it deals with the end of the class structure in France, as do so many other great French movies of that time (like "La Grande Illusion"). But film critic Francois Truffaut hated this movie and others like it, calling them the "old wave", which was why his movies and those of his contemporaries were dubbed the "new wave". Of course, it is quite possible that some of the criticism of this movie derives from it having been made in Occupied France, when other French filmmakers had left France for other countries. Certainly, it deserves to be seen by modern day film buffs, so they can make their own decision about its quality!

Artist: Roger 'Rojac' Jacquier
Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! It is from when France was occupied by the Nazis in World War II. French posters from those movies are incredibly scarce!

Condition: very good. The poster has slightly darkened (more so in the bottom title and credits area than in the borders), and there is minor fold and border wear. The poster was folded in half an extra time. Otherwise, it has survived really well!
