An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (measures 11" x 15 1/4"; 8 pages) (Learn More) Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, the classic 1935 Richard Boleslawski epic prisoner-on-the-run-hunted-throughout-the-years melodrama ("The greatest human story ever written becomes a screen triumph awaited by millions"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the French novel by Victor Hugo, which was also the source for the long-running Broadway play; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Fredric March (as Jean Valjean), Charles Laughton (as Inspector Javert), Sir Cedric Hardwicke (as Bishop Bienvenu), Rochelle Hudson (as Cosette), Frances Drake (as Eponine), Florence Eldridge (as Fantine), John Beal (as Marius), Ferdinand Gottschalk (as Thenardier), Vernon Downing (as Brissac), and John Carradine. Note that there was a 1980 French musical stage play adapted from this classic book and movie, but it did not do well. In 1985, it was significantly expanded and changed into an English language play, which has gone on to become one of the most successful plays of all time, in London, on Broadway, and all over the world! This pressbook has either ads cut out or missing pages or both.
