Date Sold 3/7/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theater Display (measures 1 1/2" x 15 3/4" x 41 3/4" [4 x 40 x 106 cm]) (Learn More) A 1950s metal theater display designed to announce upcoming and current movies and often featuring advertisements from local businesses. Many of these displays were lockable and featured glass inserts to protect the promotional material from the elements when positioned outside of the theater. Some also had clocks, thermometers, and even barometers! Important Added Info: Note that this display consists of a metal frame with a glass-covered thermometer at center (see our image). It has a plate inside that can be opened from the back. The display area is designed to hold a 22" x 14" item in the bottom section and a 8 1/2" x 14" item in the top section (the middle section contains the thermometer). It was designed to be secured with 2 locks but they are not engaged and a key is not included. It is a relatively heavy metal frame item, and please bear in mind the cost of shipping before placing a bid. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: good to very good. The plates inside have much wear, some rust on the metal parts and some discoloration at bottom. The outer frame and glass thermometer have some general wear but are otherwise in pretty nice condition. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
