An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) King of the Pecos, the 1936 Joseph Kane Texas cowboy western ("Law and Order comes to the Lone Star State!") starring John Wayne, Muriel Evans, Cy Kendall, Jack Rube Clifford, Arthur Aylesworth, Herbert Heywood, Yakima Canutt, and Tex Palmer NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the first release one-sheet posters from the movies John Wayne made for Republic Pictures in the mid 1930s are among the most desired John Wayne movie posters there are (other than the one-sheet for Stagecoach, which does not picture him at all!). Everyone agrees that the best one of these is from "The Oregon Trail", which sells for a massive amount of money (sometimes around $20,000!). This poster for "King of the Pecos" is another great one, because not only does it have an excellent image of John Wayne (some of the Republic posters have generic cowboys that don't look at all like Wayne), but it also has wonderful artwork of a runaway stagecoach, and is a very striking poster! We have only auctioned this poster twice before, once in 1993 and once in 2004 in our John Wayne Movie Posters at Auction (which contained just about every known John Wayne one-sheet) and we have not had it again in the 12 years since, and we might not have it again for many years! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had paper loss at the crossfolds, and tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the vertical fold, with a few tiny bits of paper loss on the horizontal folds. There were pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really expertly backed by a top restorer and it looks fantastic, and few people would be able to detect the restoration, even when looking at the poster close up.
