A Linenbacked Belgian Special Poster (measures 44 1/2" x 64 3/4" [113 x 164 cm]) (Learn More)

Ath Fetes Communales 1903 (literally translates to "Ath Communal Celebrations 1903"), the 1903 Belgian poster promoting a firefighting event which took place in Ath, Belgium in August. The celebration included multiple firefighting organizations, demonstrations of firefighting equipment, and something called "Tir a la Cible Chinoise" (Chinese Target Shooting, which apparently involved shooting at a firecracker in an attempt to set it off). Note that this poster features Roup artwork of a firefighter saving a young girl.
Artist: L. Roup
Important Added Info: Note that we are also auctioning a poster that measures almost exactly half this size, that is from this same event, but that poster is black & white and solely shows the art from the left of this poster. Perhaps that was a test poster of some sort, or perhaps it is incomplete (see the separate auction for that poster).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had paper loss in the top left corner, but it was almost entirely in the blank area (it only slightly touched the red border). Otherwise, the poster only had extremely minor fold and border wear, and the colors are bright and fresh. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
