A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 6 1/2" x 9 1/4" [17 x 23 cm]; 335 pages) (Learn More)

T. E. Lawrence (born Thomas Edward Lawrence) was a British archeologist, army officer, diplomat, and writer from 1914 to 1935. Lawrence was a liaison during the World War I (WWI) Sinai and Palestine Campaign and the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire. He later wrote a book based on his experiences called Seven Pillars of Wisdom, which he first wrote in 1919. Lawrence's first version (known as Text I) was lost while changing trains. In 1920, working from memory, Lawrence rewrote the manuscript (called Text II) which ended up at 400,000 words. This was later trimmed down to 335,000 words (this was Text III) in 1922 and only 8 copies were produced. This was technically the first edition but it was only shown to critics and friends. In 1926, the book was abridged to 250,000 words in what is called the "Subscribers' Edition", which was limited to 200 copies. In 1927, it was further abridged to 130,000 words for sale to the general public and published under the title Revolt in the Desert. The book was later adapted into the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia. He passed away in 1935 at the age of 46.
Important Added Info: As noted above, this was the fourth version of this book. Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads.
