Date Sold 12/31/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" Photos (Learn More) Son of Frankenstein, the classic 1939 Rowland V. Lee Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("Mysterious! Weird! Horrifying!"; "The greatest fear figures in screen history... all in Universal's New cavalcade of horror!"; the third Universal "Frankenstein" movie) starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as the original Dr. Frankenstein's son), Boris Karloff (in the title role as the Frankenstein monster), Bela Lugosi (as Ygor), Lionel Atwill, Josephine Hutchinson, and Donnie Dunagan (as Peter von Frankenstein) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: What great photos these are! One shows all the giant photo blow-ups they had outside the theater and the other shows an ambulance that they kept parked outside the theater which had a banner on it that says "This ambulance is reserved for the ones seeing Son of Frankenstein", and, for the icing on the cake, it had the name of a local funeral home under that, implying that patrons would be literally scared to death by this movie! Note that these are from a wonderful collection of photos (most measure 3.5x5.25, but some measure slightly smaller) that were taken by a man who worked at a large movie theater in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He created wonderful theater fronts and homemade posters (some that were displayed outside the theater and some inside the theater), and after he finished making his displays, he would take a picture of each and then he put them in a scrapbook. We have auctioned two groups of photos from this wonderful scrapbook, in single auctions. Now we are offering seven sets (in seven separate auctions) of between two and six photos each from the same scrapbook (sadly we are coming to the end of these!) It is very rare to find photos of original theater fronts and local theater displays from this time period! Condition: good to very good. The photos were stapled to an album page, and there are staple holes in the corners. There are glue stains on the back (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
