Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Something to Sing About (released in France as "Hollywood Hollywood"), the 1937 Victor Schertzinger Hollywood actor musical comedy ("Dancing... Romancing and Packing a Real Wallop! The No. 1 Dynamo of the screen goes to town in his latest and greatest role."; "It's something to cheer about!"; "Original Story, Music and Direction by Victor Schertzinger"; about a New York bandleader who goes to Hollywood and appears in a movie, when the filming is over he marries his fiance and they go on a honeymoon, but in the meantime the movie is a huge hit and he is lured back to Hollywood, which puts a strain on his new marriage) starring James Cagney ("A Cagney You Have Never Seen!"), Evelyn Daw, William Frawley, Mona Barrie, Gene Lockhart, James Newill, Harry Barris, Cully Richards, Candy Candido, William Davidson, Richard Tucker, Marek Windheim, Johnny Arthur, Dwight Frye, and Philip Ahn. Note that this movie was made when Cagney was having a major dispute with Warner Bros., not just about salary, but also about them forcing him to make gangster movie after gangster movie. So he signed to make this movie with Grand National, a small studio, and it is a parody of the beginning of his own career, because he was a dancer on Broadway who made Public Enemy, and he thought that might be a one time thing, and that he would return to Broadway, but it made him a star (and typecast him as a gangster). However, this movie turned out to be a major flop, which really hurt Grand National, because they spent over $900,000 on it, which crippled the studio and put them out of business a few years later. What makes it doubly sad is that they had the rights to Angels with Dirty Faces at the same time as this movie, and they chose to make this movie first! Had they made Angels first, it might have made the studio much more successful! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This card is a mystery to us! Perhaps some theater owner didn't think people would go to see a Jimmy Cagney movie called "Something to Sing About" and thought it would be far more appealing if it was "Something to Fight About", especially since Cagney's trademark was action crime films! But I guess we will never know the actual story. Condition: good. The word "SING" in the title was painted over with blue and then carefully painted to read "FIGHT" . There are minor creases in the borders. There is staining across the bottom 1" to 2 1/2" of the card extending into the image over Cagn Learn More about condition grades
